It’s a Wonderful Life Themed Christmas Card

Every year, the Jones family does a Christmas card that totally blows all other Christmas cards out of the water. They pick a holiday movie or song, we come up with a concept, get the costumes, do the hair and make-up, and create something one-of-a-kind. And often times hilarious. This year, they chose the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”…which just happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time! Maybe not as funny as years past, but still totally original and I love their dedication to the process! I look forward to our sessions every year! Check out the results:

Charlie Brown Christmas Custom Family Card

When your kid’s name is Charlie, you almost have to do A Charlie Brown Christmas card theme for your holiday cards! I love working with the Jones family every year on their cards! They each dressed as a Peanuts character: dad as Linus, mom as Peppermint Patty, big sisters as Sally and Lucy, and then the sweet little guy Charlie Jones was our Charlie Brown…and peep the props! Linus’s blanket, Woodstock, and the sad little tree. You may recognize a similar pose for their dog Whompus – he didn’t make the trip to the studio this year, so we thought it would be hilarious to just insert him into the final card image in the same pose as last year. It’s easy to entertain us!:) Here’s the final product:

The Jones Family always know how to have fun with their Christmas card…and I am always so excited to help bring their vision to life! This year, they are expecting their 3rd child and came up with the awesome theme “We saw DADDY kissing Santa Claus” (with mommy and her jolly belly as Santa!). Hilarious! How the Grinch Stole Christmas Family Holiday Card

There are several things I love about this card, but my absolute favorite part is the Jones’s family dog, Whompus’s expression as he obediently and nervously sits for his picture only to have me (poorly, but on purpose!) Photoshop the singular reindeer antler from the Grinch book on to his forehead. Just look at his face and try not to laugh! I always look forward to working with the Jones family on their Christmas cards each year. Just look at the dedication in the costumes! So fun! Can’t wait to see what we do next year!

A Christmas Story Custom Christmas Card

So the holidays are over and even I – one of the worst abusers of leaving Christmas decorations up (the lights on my back porch are called “bistro lights” february thru november) – have already removed all evidence of Christmas decor from my home, but I have to share Christmas card I did for the Jones Family. This has got to be my absolute favorite shot from 2011!! I knew the Jones’ were just the right people to pull this off with me and they hit it out of the park. Lindsay hit up the thrift store for the family’s wardrobe, I found the leg lamp at (it even came in a box marked “fragile” and had the option of shipping in a large wooden crate like in the movie for an additional cost), and it just so happens that Mark had a red rider bb gun up in the attic. Everyone had a blast during the shoot…we shot at Mark’s mom’s house over Thanksgiving break, so we had our own “live studio audience” cheering on the Jones’ during the shoot. It was great!

If you’re interested in doing your own A Christmas Story-themed portrait session for next year’s holiday cards, hit me up! The leg lamp needs some more miles on it!!:) So Merry belated-Christmas and Happy New Year!
