Allyson + Peter, Pittsburgh Engagement Portraits

The produce loading docks in Pittsburgh’s Strip District have been a location I’ve been wanting to shoot at for some time. So, when Allyson said “We want Pittsburgh. We trust you,” I knew this was the time! Saying that we had a short planning process for Allyson and Peter’s engagement session and wedding would be an understatement. These two decided to get married about six months before their wedding date, and with their busy schedules–Peter is a doctor and Allyson is a lawyer–these two relied heavily on trusted friends and family to take care of planning for them. It all turned out beautifully and makes me wonder why anyone needs more time to plan!;)

The day of the engagement session was hot and humid and rain was threatening at any minute, but with our limited time frame, this was the day we had to do the session so we were moving forward, rain or shine. Luckily, no rain….just perfect light conditions!

Elizabeth + Chris, Pittsburgh Engagement Session

Elizabeth and Chris brought some heat to the Hot Metal Bridge at the start of their engagement session on a cold day in March. We chose Pittsburgh as the location because just a few months earlier, Chris popped the question during a special date night in the city. And that’s just the start of the story! During dinner, Chris had given Elizabeth another gift to throw her off a little (she confesses she was hoping he’d be proposing that night!). Then, after dinner, they rode the incline…and Chris made sure they had a car all to themselves and that’s when he surprised Elizabeth! So of course we had to make a stop at the incline during the session. Plus, it was warm.:) Bonus! After the incline, I wanted to try a shot on top of a parking garage in the cultural district. I love how the tall buildings surround them and put them in their own little world. Congrats to these two love birds and can’t wait to shoot their wedding in September!

Ben + Danielle, Pittsburgh Engagement Portraits

Warm November days are few and far between sometimes, so when they come around, I’m always excited to spend them in the city photographing two people in love. Ben is my husband’s cousin and I was so excited to when he and Danielle asked me to take their engagement pictures!

Fun fact: Ben and Danielle are talented musicians and you should check out their band The Lion Summer. Folksy perfection! I thought for sure we were going to do an eclectic folk inspired shoot, maybe in a field with some random furniture or at least a hipster streetscape, but these two surprised me when they wanted to do traditional Pittsburgh as their backdrop. We started at Mount Washington, visited the Point Park Fountain, and ended with the Clemente Bridge and North Shore walk. I had a great time with Ben and Danielle and look forward to welcoming Danielle to the Smith family this summer!

Bethany + Nate — Pittsburgh, PA Engagement Portraits

50 degrees in January? I’ll take it! What a perfect day we had for Bethany and Nate’s engagement session in downtown Pittsburgh. We started on the North Shore, capturing the beautiful golden bridges, the shimmering city reflections on the river, and the Pittsburgh skyline.

In between outfit changes, they confessed to me that they thought they were “blowing it” and I laughed because seriously, they couldn’t have been doing any better – just look at how sweet and photogenic these two are! After the North Shore pictures, we headed over to Station Square to get some shots on the Smithfield Street Bridge. Awesome session – I’m so excited to photograph their wedding this fall!

Kayla + Josh…and Bane — Indiana, PA Fall Portraits

Kayla is a family friend and in the top 3 of my kids favorite babysitters. She and her boyfriend Josh are just wild about their doggie, Bane…and you can see why! Bane is full of life and just a sweet dog!

Fall was also in full swing at our session and the colors were A-MA-ZING! The cloudy morning made the colors pop that much more! I often bike or walk out at IUP’s South Campus, so I’ve been scouting out good spots for photo sessions for a while. South Campus has deep woods and wide trails where the IUP Cross Country team runs, but also rolling clear fields that I was looking for to do a little silhouette action.

Jeff + Jess — Pittsburgh Engagement Portraits

I love doing sessions in the city and even more so when they are with two people as fun as Jeff and Jess! Jess (who I affectionately refer to simply as Debo) has been one of my best friends since high school. These two Pittsburghers love their city and their Pirates!

We started the session at the West End Overlook to get some wide city shots, and then worked our way down to the North Shore and PNC Park for their “Save the Date” set-up. Super excited about being a GUEST at their wedding in May! Best wishes you two! It’s right around the corner!

Bree + Wade Engagement Portraits — McConnell’s Mill State Park — Beaver County PA Photographer

One thing’s for sure about this winter – it was cold and we got a lot of snow! When Bree said she wanted romantic snow pictures for her engagement session, I immediately thought of McConnell’s Mill State Park. The old mill, the covered bridge, the rocky trails, and the pines – all perfect ingredients for a winter portrait session! Chelsea + Dave — Engagement Portraits — Beaver County PA Photographer

Another stroke of luck – capturing a rustic fall theme in the winter. I can’t take credit for the amazing weather we had this day – the Big Guy upstairs gave us gorgeous sun that warmed everything up and made it look like September when it was really December. Ok, so maybe like late October in late November…but still! Great conditions! Continue reading → Chelsea + Dave — Engagement Portraits — Beaver County PA Photographer

Karissa + Brandon — Engagement Portraits — Rock Furnace Trail — Apollo, PA Photographer

I have lived just outside of Apollo for almost 5 years now and I’ve never heard of the Rock Furnace Trail – what a treasure! (yes, I said “treasure”…it truly is awesome!). Beautiful wooded trails and THREE waterfalls! We only ventured to the first of the three for my session with Karissa and Brandon…something about carrying 20 pounds of gear on uneven rocky trails near water…and me being a tiny bit clumsy…yeah, best to play it safe!:) Continue reading → Karissa + Brandon — Engagement Portraits — Rock Furnace Trail — Apollo, PA Photographer
